Our Processions

Ringwood Carnival is unique in that we have two processions; making it a ‘festival of fun’ on Carnival day.

Come and see our wonderful community floats, feature vehicles, Carnival Queen, marching bands and steam engines together with loud bangs, music and flashing lights – Ringwood Carnival Society is so proud of the diversity and strength of our procession. Come and enjoy!

Ringwood Carnival Royalty 2019

Our Carnival Royalty, from Ringwood School, is led by our Carnival Ambassador and Carnival Queen.  We are delighted to announce that the Ringwood Carnival Queen for 2019 is Tierney Long, accompanied by her attendants Shannon McKay and Sarah-Faith Tihngang.

Princesses for 2019 are Elizabeth Ironside (from Poulner Junior School) and Isabella Broadhouse (from Ringwood Junior School).

The girls have the pleasure of riding the prestigious horse drawn dias which is once again led through the town by the very special Sampson Family and their Percheron Horses.

Ringwood Town Mayor 2019

As part of the lead group of our processions, our Town Mayor, Councillor Tony Ring will be playing an important role of representing Ringwood Town Council.  As part of this lead group, he will travel in a vintage and prestigious vehicle supplied this year by RK Prestige. Each year a different vehicle is provided – you’ll have to pop down to our procession to find out the vehicle this year!

Best of Show Winner!

Taking place in the market place (next to the VIP area), procession trophies are presented to winners by our Carnival President – together with those that sponsor.

A HUGE £500 can be won for the ‘Best of Show’ together with the prestige of winning the historic Tom Gamage Trophy to the best entry.  Those winners will have the pleasure of donating their funds to their chosen charity.

It’s all to play for by those taking part in the procession!

The Village Green

Our wonderful Village Green returns to The Bickerley Green this year with activities starting at 12:00pm!  With wonderful children’s games, stalls, arts and crafts, face painting, demonstrations, charity and trade stalls – together with live entertainment, it’s the place to soak up the atmosphere both prior and between processions.  It’s rammed to the rafters this year! With with live performances from 3pm with Simon Chainey and Gang & Bow Legged Skeeter, it’s the place to check out after the afternoon procession!

Adlam’s Fun Fair at The Bickerley Green

We are privileged and delighted to once again have the Adlam’s Fun Fair join us at The Bickerley Green for 2019.   One of the best funfairs in the UK, there will be all the latest rides and funfair entertainment.  From Thursday through to Saturday.

The Grand Firework Display

The grand finale of Carnival day is our famous firework display brought to you by Paines Fireworks.  Displayed at The Bickerley Green at approximately 9:30pm, head down to see a beautiful high burst display of fireworks.  End your day with a BANG!

The Bournemouth Carnival Band – Evening Warm Up @ The RAILWAY PUB AND KITCHEN

Fancy some great entertainment whilst grabbing some food and drinks on Carnival day?  Why not head to the excellent Railway Pub and Kitchen for one of their famous handmade burgers while listening to the infamous BOURNEMOUTH CARNIVAL BAND!  This is the ONLY TIME that the Band performs to pub goers – so don’t miss this rare opportunity…  The band shall be there from 5pm onwards in the beer garden.

From 6:45pm onwards the Carnival Band shall be marching the procession route EXCLUSIVELY as the pre-procession warm up.  Anything goes with the Carnival band, so who knows what tricks they have up their sleeve on Carnival day!

From Morning to Late @ Framptons 

Located right in the heart of the procession route – Framptons shall be open throughout Carnival day serving their wonderful range of food and drinks.  With views of the procession both at the front and rear – you are right in the heart of the action!

On top of that – Framptons shall be hosting their OFFICIAL CARNIVAL AFTER PARTY – from 8pm till late with live music from DJ’s Funk Da Realm, Framptons has everything covered for you!

Want to have the finest view of the Carnival? Want seating and great Commentary? Want to be treated like a VIP?

Join the exclusive VIP members in the Market Place on carnival day for a small fee.

The VIP area is located in the centre of the Market Place, where Members can sit and enjoy great views of the processions, listen to the live commentary and witness the prize-giving presentations.  On top of that, there is also the brilliant SWING UNLIMITED BAND warming up the atmosphere before both processions.  If that is not enough – there are also free refreshments during both processions provided by Crow Farm Shop!  For more information – click here.

Simon Chainey and his professional gang of street entertainers shall be entertaining us once again this year.  They will be warming the crowds on the high street before both processions , so make sure to get parked and down to Ringwood in good time.  Jugglers, fire performers, magicians, stilt walkers and all sorts of weird and wonderful tricks, games and delights shall be taking place on our closed road ahead of each procession.

The Greyfriars Garden Party

Fancy something a little more gentle and relaxing?  Head down to The Greyfriars Garden Party for a seat, with refreshments and the wonderful sounds of the prestigious Ringwood and Burley Band.

From 3pm onwards, the band shall be performing together with some light entertainment from Simon Chainey & Gang, as well as live radio broadcasts from Forest FM – it’s a great way to relax, take a seat and soak up the atmosphere.

Live Music @ The Lamb

Throughout Carnival Day, The Lamb Inn will be hosting a whole variety of music with live DJs and bands to get into the Carnival spirit.  From 1pm until late, DJs and live bands will be playing in the rear Car Park, together with a BBQ, refreshments and bouncy castle for the kids.  Situated directly on the procession route – it’s a great place to base yourselves, to watch the processions.

Live commentary shall also be available at The Castleman Roundabout with one of the Carnival PA vans – everything you need is in one place!

Carnival Fun in The Furlong Centre

With FREE face painting for children (or Dads!) between 11am and 2pm at The Furlong Centre, why not get in the pre-Carnival spirit while doing your shopping?  It doesn’t stop there; Simon Chainey and his professional street entertainers shall be keeping you in the festival mood for Carnival morning from 10:30am onwards building up to the afternoon procession.  Keeping the Carnival spirit while enjoying your retail therapy!

What to know who the procession entries are?

We have two PA vans with live commentary on the procession route this year.  One based at Castleman Roundabout and the second at the VIP area in the Market Place.  Be sure to listen to live commentary at either of those locations. Procession winners will be presented with their trophies in the Market Place.  It’s the place to base yourself if you wish to know the winners!

Discover The Historic Ringwood Meeting House

Visit the historic Grade II* Listed Ringwood Meeting House.  Dating back to 1727, it is now the only dissenting Meeting House in Hampshire to survive from the period before 1800 in a virtually unaltered state.

Doors will be open between 10am – 4pm for visitors to explore this beautiful historic building, together with the vast collection of old photographs and artefacts with the current exhibition compiled by Ringwood Twinning Association.

Discover Ringwood Fire Station

Between 11am – 4pm Ringwood Fire Station of Hampshire Fire & Rescue shall be open to the public to view the garages and fire engines.  Why not drop in and support our local heroes!

Our Marching Bands

The marching bands are an institution of our processions, some coming as far as London and this year we have a record number.  This is only financially possible because of our loyal sponsors.

These bands are so traditional, and make the Carnival extra special. Each one is so distinct, you can hear them marching down the road way before you can see them! Keep an eye out for each band and their amazing performances, which create our wonderful atmosphere.
